Fix: Why is My Computer Running Slow

Though this days computer are becoming faster and faster but this does not mean that there are no slow computers. Sluggishness in computer is caused by some reasons. If your commuter (once a fast computer) suddenly dropped sluggish after some period of time critically examine then apply one of the following piece of advice.

Causes of slow computer

1. Too many programs in operation: Even multi-processor servers have their limits. There are lots of programs that run underground (they operate without you noticing them). If you are such type that handle lots of applications or heavy application programs like graphical, architectural or video editors. I have seen a graphic application freezing a highly configured PC

Advice: don’t open many heavy applications at the same time, once you are working on one application program exit before opening another application.

2. Malicious activities: the existence of viruses may cause a slow computer. Viruses operate underground without your notice, some won’t even show up in the task managers’ running applications, as a result you have a lot of activities going on your system memory, viruses messing with the available memory space, adding more tasks to your anti-virus (because your anti-virus need memory space to operate too when killing the viruses)

Advice: need a strong antivirus for your PC then perform full system scan.

3. Low system memory: RAM (Random Access Memory) also known as the working memory, it holds every active program (currently executing programs) for the processor to execute. You will soon run out of memory if the size of your working memory is small.

Advice: Upgrade your working memory.

4. Low speed microprocessor:  the speed of your microprocessor also matters for the purpose of multi-tasking. With low speed microprocessor there will delay in processing of tasks due to much queue of tasks waiting to be executed, thus a slow PC.

Advice: replacement of microprocessor is not anything easy, consider replacing the complete PC, but if a processor can be replaced; it’s not a bad idea either.

Though replacement of working memory does not guaranty a faster PC because the speed of a PC is determine by both the Working Memory and the Processor.

These are my day-to-day experience with slow PCs. Consider the above four challenges and apply the advice according to any of them that applies to you.
