Normal Way to shut Down
We all know how to power off the computer, on a good day if you wan to off your PC what and how do you go about it ? Click start>>Turn Off>>Shut Down, this is the normal process of shutting down in windows XP and thery are almost similar with that of the newer version of windows OS.
Abnormal Way To Shut Down
If you try this on my PC and am older then you, I may just give you a knock in your head. If you want to slowly kill your system, you can continue this process of shut down: Hold down the power button and force the computer to off, you will just wake up one day to discover your PC will not longer load/boot
Geek Way To Shut Down
We always have our way of doing things, the inventors does theirs and we do ours, we don't follow the rules, we are out-laws (2pac..may his soul rest in peace **sobbing **)
If you are in the middle of something (probably you open a lot of programs) and you want to shut down your computer (this should be an emergency shut down) these are what to do (remember we forbid the mouse, we don't use them at all).
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and then Alt-T to open Task Manager's Applications tab. Press the down arrow, and then Shift-down arrow to select all the programs listed in the window. When they're all selected, press Alt-E, then Alt-F, and finally X to close Task Manager. right now all running applications are closed and you are seeing your windows desktop then to shut down with the keyboard Read Geek's Mind: How Keyboard Keys Saves From Embarrassment
Don't forget that nothing will be saved, normally if you want to close a window you will be prompted before they will finally exit.
If you experience Ctrl + Alt + Del has been disabled by the administrator you will have to read How To Enable Task Manager From Group Policy
