What SEO Is And What It Is Not

 

Many people (including me but that was then) think that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is getting to the top of Google without following the right procedure or getting higher page rank by hook or crook, but it does not work  that way.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic"), search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users.

From the definition of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you should notice that it’s something you have to do if you care much about ranking high in Google and other search engine top search results. Most web masters today think that SEO is all about attacking the search engine or Spam the web with irrelevant links this is why they fail and also get penalized.

Attack the Search Engine: you should have it in back of your mind that people don’t work for search engines rather search engines work for people by serving them with the best search results; when you publish what people want to read or what people always search for and you have not set any restriction to search bots on your page I see no reason why your page content will not display in the search result, because even the search engine developers will like to give their users the best search result so that they will be recommended as well, don’t you thing of that ?

How do web masters attack the search engine? I was listening to Maile Ohye when she was trying to explain how web masters don’t longer care about their readers but gives more attention to search engines and she is right, web masters today are after Google not their readers/visitors but the idea is wrong, you have to know that you’re not writing for Google bots to read, you’re writing for human being/visitors, Google and any other search engine will analyze visitors activities on your page (time spent, what they do and any other actions they perform) and rank that page accordingly, for that reason you don’t have to waste time trying to please a search bot, try to get what someone is looking for and the traffic is left for search engines, though, you can still publicize your work by sharing on your social network or even offline.

Spam the web with irrelevant links: some web masters want to force their ways to the whole of the Internet and they think posting their links on any website they comment on or forums is the best way of “spreading their good news” but the fact is that your link is not needed in those places, what are you expecting me to feel when you drop your link in my comment box while commenting? I fell that you are not interested in what am saying and all you needed is to tell me that you have the best source of the information I just published, mine is just bullshit.

When you’re thinking of SEO also think of long term goal, don’t expect to see a rapid result, SEO is not a magic, it takes sometimes to see the difference, all you need to do is to take a your time to compose your posts with good keyword-density then allow the search engine to play their part (just natural).
