The Domain name is divided into three parts:
WWW (World Wide Web): The World Wide Web is a global information medium which users can read and write via computers connected to the Internet. The term is often mistakenly used as a synonym for the Internet itself, but the Web is a service that operates over the Internet, just as e-mail also does.
Site Name: Is the user desired name. This part is part of your domain name is the site name itself....its the name of your website, just like when you say Yahoo (the domain is www.yahoo.com) and any other website you know.
Domain Type: This is the last part of a domain name (the extended part of a domain name). The Top Level Domain is the main reason of this article.
A top-level domain (TLD) is one of the domains at the highest level in the hierarchical Domain Name System of the Internet. The top-level domain names are installed in the root zone of the name space. For all domains in lower levels, it is the last part of the domain name, that is, the last label of a fully qualified domain name. For example, in the domain name www.example.com, the top-level domain is .com (or .COM, as domain names are not case-sensitive).
