Domain name is the name or an address to a website usually called web address. A domain is actually pointing to a website on a hosting server, and example of domain is www.brilliantinfo.net, www.google.com these are two example of web addresses point to a particular site hosted on a particular hosting server.
Domain have three parts
WWW (World Wide Web)
User Name(Domain Name)
.com, .net, .org .....(Domain Type)
World Wide Web is already there by default so that you don't have to type it when typing a web address.
Domain Name and Domain Type these two are user's choice, registering your website on the Internet you will have to choose a domain name and a domain type of your choice only if the Domain Name and Type are available(are not yet registered by another person on the Internet) your website address can be www.domain-name.com, www.domain-name.net, www.domain-name.org, www.domain-name.com.ng e.t.c
In order to register for a web address you will have to go to websites that handle domain name registration service like godaddy, yahoo, hostgator e.t.c (you can read Getting A Reliable Domain Name) there are lot of them or you can just type "domain name registration" on your search engine, there will be quite a number of websites that does that. Once you get to the website that handle domain name registration any other thing is easy and the payment depends on you and them(You: How you will have to pay for them to receive, Them: how they receive payments for there services)
- Type a domain-name of your choice
- Take a domain-type of your choice
- Proceed to registration
- Then make payments
